Second planning application submitted for £11m apartments scheme
Altrincham-based developer, 21 Living, has submitted its second planning application in Stockport, for the £11m redevelopment of Seaton House.
The plan is to create 40 new apartments with flexible work space.
Following the conditional purchase of the former print mill at Wellington Street, and further to submitting plans for Tiviot Dale last month, 21 Living will bring forward the 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments and 6,000 sq ft of commercial space.
Designed by Ollier Smurthwaite Architects, the redevelopment includes office accommodation in the fully refurbished original building, and a new five-storey building to the rear consisting of 40 apartments. The new building will use matching brick and roof materials, to complement the original.
All the apartments will benefit from winter gardens as well as a communal landscaped courtyard garden and terraces to ground floor apartments. The apartments will be available for sale on the open market.
Luke Powell, 21 Living managing director, said: “Stockport is a perfect location for us to reinforce our brand and demonstrate our development expertise and craft with designed living space.
“The thriving town has a wealth of the types of redevelopment opportunities we love to take on, and we are confident our presence here will help drive further demand for quality homes, as well as impacting positively on its overall regeneration.”
He added: “Seaton House is the next step on the ladder for us. We already have three occupiers lined up for the work space and we want to be on site with the new build residential as soon as we obtain planning approval.”
This scheme was identified through ‘Unlocked’, a new placemaking collective launched to solve the housing crisis by increasing density in urban centres, maintaining green belt, and bringing forward sustainable development opportunities on overlooked sites to benefit their local communities.
Matt Ollier, from Ollier Smurthwaite Architects, said: “We’re excited to have the opportunity to retain and restore another one of Stockport’s historic buildings.
“The new residential building to the rear is designed to complement the existing and provide dual aspect living overlooking a lush green courtyard only a short walk from the station and adjoining the old town.”
