Merseyside hotel in bid to build 40-bed extension and seven Padel courts

A Merseyside hotel has submitted proposals to build a five-storey extension to the existing location and develop a seven-court Padel tennis facility.

The Park Hotel, located on Dunningsbridge Road, Netherton, has made the application to Sefton Council.

The extension, designed by Sefton-based W D Architects, would add 40 more rooms to the site, which already boasts 62 beds and 97 car parking spaces, six of which will be converted for EV charging.

Four of the new rooms would be fully accessible.

All accommodation can be accessed from the existing reception area of the hotel or via the new sports facility reception.

The new extension to the eastern end of the hotel has been designed to be five storeys tall but is still no taller than the lift shaft structure of the existing hotel.

The Padel courts would be created on vacant land to the rear of the hotel.

The courts have been designed in accordance with the Lawn Tennis Associations guidelines and will cater for six practice courts and one ‘Grade A’ court which will be able to be used for competition purposes and has been designed to future Olympic standards.

The ground floor of the extension will consist of the reception area for the Padel facility, changing rooms, sauna and ice bath facilities and a café with viewing area over the proposed courts, all connected to the existing hotel.

Wroot Design has submitted the application, on behalf of City Life Projects.

Dunnings bridge Road is a major route into the city from the north, heading towards the Port of Liverpool. Aintree racecourse, home of the Grand National, is half a mile away.

The Park hotel has been established for more than 50 years.

The land to the rear has been left vacant for more than 30 years and is enclosed by the hotel, to the south, Aldi to the west, industrial warehousing to the north and a garage to the east.

The proposed scheme also plans to refurbish and bring life back into the existing 1960s part of the building.
