A developer is seeking multimillion-pound damages from Manchester property group, Peel, relating to its Central Docks scheme, at Liverpool Waters.

Romal Capital (CO2) and landowner Peel (L&P) Ports Limited began legal action today (May 12) at the High Court in Liverpool.

Romal is alleging breaches of an agreement for lease of land at Central Docks, where Romal has been delivering waterfront residential developments.

It is Romal’s case that Peel breached the contract between them by making a series of planning applications which conflicted with Romal’s proposed development, making it significantly more difficult for Romal to obtain its own planning permission.

Peel denies wrongdoing and is defending the claim in full.

A Romal Capital spokesperson said: “Our commitment to the Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme is unwavering and we regret that this dispute has reached the courts.

“We have always remained focused on delivering homes of quality and distinction, rooted in place-making and community for Liverpool.”

The hearing, in the High Court Business and Property Courts, Liverpool District Registry, is expected to run for three weeks.

Peel was contacted but declined to comment.
