Orchid Environmental to create 50 jobs

A LANCASHIRE-based environmental company has acquired part of the Corus Steel works site in Flintshire in a deal which is expected to create 50 full-time jobs.

Adlington-based Orchid Environmental intends to build a state-of-the-art waste treatment plant on the site.

Contracts were exchanged last month although legal completion is expected to take place later this year.

Orchid Environmental was advised on the deal – for which a figure has not been released – by Manchester-based law firm, George Davies.

Construction of the plant has commenced and it is anticipated that full commercial operation will be underway early next year.

Orchid Environmental specialises in diverting municipal, commercial and industrial non-hazardous waste from landfill.

It also specialises in recovering significant volumes of recyclable products such as metals, plastics and glass in addition to low carbon fuels.

Caroline Hanratty, a partner at George Davies, said: “Environmental matters are high up on people’s priority lists as we all strive to be greener.

“Orchid’s core business is turning everyday household waste into sustainable low carbon fuels.

“The acquisition of this site in Flintshire will enable Orchid to build a state-of-the-art waste treatment plant and greatly enhance the diversion of local waste from landfill.”
