Buyout prevents bakery jobs from going stale

AROUND 70 jobs have been saved at a North Wales bakery after administrators completed a deal to sell the business back to its existing management team.

Berwyn Bakery, which is the second-largest employer in the town of Bala, Gwynedd, has been trading for more than 100 years.

The business makes cupcakes, muffins and other baked confectionery and has a line capable of producing 20,000 gingerbread men per hour. It had grown from a local operation into a national supplier to a number of UK supermarkets.

However, administrators Russell Cash and Lindsey Cooper from the Manchester office of Baker Tilly Restructuring were appointed as joint administrators to the company last Thursday, September 8.

Cooper said: “We are pleased to have concluded the sale thereby guaranteeing the future of this long standing business and preserving all 70 jobs.

“The outcome should be excellent news to the local community. The company has an excellent reputation and we are delighted that the transaction provides the opportunity for it to continue to trade and build upon that reputation for years to come.”
