Retailer buys mill for £650k

A MILL building in east Lancashire has been bought by a retailer for £650,000.
Albion Mills on Albion Road, in Earby near Barnoldswick, was sold by Eddisons, the chartered surveyors to Harry Garlick, which sells TVs and other electrical appliances.
The mill was formerly home to Damart, housing its printing and mail centre, before the company moved to Steeton, near Keighley in July last year.
Family-run Barnoldswick company Garlick, which has seven shops in Skipton and East Lancashire, plans to use the 65,000 sq ft building which occupies a 1.43 acre site as a warehouse, once an extensive refurbishment programme has been completed.
Ian Scothern, director at Harry Garlick said: ‘The move from a rented warehouse to one we own will help to secure the future of the business.
“It will allow us to maintain our competitive edge and ultimately protect a large number of positions for our employees.’
John Padgett of Eddisons said: “This is an imposing building which has created plenty of interest from a range of potential buyers.
“Not only are we delighted with the price we have achieved for our client, but it is also gratifying to know that the buyer will be breathing new life into the building.”
