CSC appoints Butterworth as chief operating officer

CAPITAL Shopping Centres has appointed the long-standing boss of the Trafford Centre as the group’s chief operating officer.

Mike Butterworth, who has been managing director of Trafford Centre Ltd since 1996 and oversaw its opening in 1998, will take up the role of chief operating officer from October 3, reporting directly to CSC’s chief executive David Fischel.

Since CSC’s £1.6bn takeover of Peel’s Trafford Centre complex in January, Butterworth has been chairman of CSC Trafford – a division containing The Trafford Centre as well as Manchester Arndale, the Braehead centre in Glasgow and Bristol’s Cribbs Causeway.

He had initially joined the Manchester Ship Canal in 1991 and became property director of Peel Holdings in 2001. He is one of Peel founder John Whittaker’s closest and most trusted executives.

Capital Shopping Centres has also announced that its longstanding executive director Kay Chaldecott is to stand down at the end of the month following a 27-year career with the business.

David Fischel, chief executive of CSC, said: “We understand Kay’s decision to
stand down, prompted by a desire for a change in lifestyle after 27 years with
the group.

“Kay has been a loyal and dedicated member of the executive team and
played an instrumental part in the development and success of the group’s
shopping centre business. We are delighted that Kay has agreed to provide
consultancy services to the group.”
