Fearless foursome’s sponsored skydive for The Christie

THREE of Manchester’s leading business women intend to complete a skydive from 12,000 feet to support Manchester’s Christie Hospital.
Deloitte’s head of regions audit team, Sharon Fraser, will take the plunge with PZ Cussons’ UK chief executive Elaine Birchall and Sabre Europe’s head of finance Jo McCarthy.
The trio will be joined by The Christie’s chief executive Caroline Shaw for the skydive on May 22.
The four women will then face 45 seconds of freefall and speeds of up to 120mph before landing.
The money raised by the sponsored skydive will be used to support The Christie’s early clinical cancer trials which are now ongoing.
The idea for the fundraising skydive was hatched by Deloitte’s Sharon Fraser.
She said: “The work of The Christie has always impressed and inspired me down the years and I wanted to do something to help.
“As well as having friends and family over the years that have suffered from cancer, the fact that 1 in 3 people are likely to develop cancer and 1 in 4 to die from it, suggests we need to keep doing all we can to understand it, diagnose it early and eradicate it.
“As well as Caroline, I managed to persuade 2 other intrepid friends to join me in this venture – and at the moment, emotions range from terror to nervous excitement, but we are determined to do it.”
Caroline Shaw said: “The Christie is building the world’s largest early clinical trials unit for cancer.
“Housed within our new patient treatment centre, the trials will not only help 2,400 people in the North West access the very latest cancer treatments each year, but will also have an impact on how cancer is treated from Bolton to Brisbane.
“I would ask everyone to help the four of us to raise as much money as possible to help the experts undertaking this work by giving as generously as possible.”
