North West fronts strong presence at MIPIM

THE North West will have a contingent of nearly 50 organisations representing its interests at this year’s international property convention MIPIM which opens in France today.

A total of 37 businesses and other bodies from across Greater Manchester are heading to Cannes for the event which runs until Friday.

A further 11 organisations are making the trip to represent Liverpool’s interests at MIPIM which allows cities to promote themselves as a place to invest.

The main sponsor for Manchester’s presence at MIPIM is the city council while other sponsors include property, regeneration organisation New East Manchester, inward investment group MIDAS and West Properties.

Liverpool’s supporters include the city council as well as economic development companies Liverpool Vision and The Mersey Partnership.

Leading figures from Manchester’s business community, including Ian Simpson, Michael Oglesby, David Leather, David Partridge, Tom Bloxham and Jackie Potter, will host on-stand presentations twice-a-day to update delegates on various projects taking place in the city.

Manchester City Council chief executive, Sir Howard Bernstein, will be part of the panel at an event at Hotel Gray D’Albion on Thursday 18th March that will focus on key subjects influencing the city’s direction.

He will also take part in a ‘European Cities’ seminar at the Majestic Barriere Hotel on Wednesday, March 17, at which he will discuss how cities can utilise major events to drive regeneration and deliver a genuine legacy.

Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, said: “This will be the tenth year that Manchester has attended MIPIM.

“During that time, our profile as a city has risen significantly and our activity has matured to reflect the changing economic climate.

“What hasn’t changed during that time is our determination to showcase the city’s biggest property and infrastructure projects to the investors that can make developments happen.”

Speaking to TheBusinessDesk.com earlier this month, Mike Taylor, a director of investment and enterprise at Liverpool Vision, said: “Liverpool has changed immeasurably since our first MIPIM nine years ago, not just in terms of infrastructure and development, but also with the increased involvement of the private sector and our growing confidence as an international destination.

“This year’s MIPIM, together with our presence at the World Expo in Shanghai, offers us our best opportunity yet to shout about what Liverpool has to offer in terms of business, commerce and property as well as tourism and culture.”
