Salford Uni seeks developers for £30m of student housing

SALFORD University has submitted a tender inviting developers to bid for a £30m project to build more than 2,000 student properties at its main Peel Park campus.
The university gained outline planning consent for the scheme last month, which consists of three new tower blocks which would each be up to ten storeys high. It is part of a wider £75m redevelopment of the campus.
A notice in the European Journal inviting bidders states that the first phase will involve building 1,300 beds on its existing Castle Irwell accommodation.
The second phase will be developed at an unspecified date in the future, with the university stating that it “wishes to retain flexibility in terms of timing” as it is set to take place alongside the development of new sports facilities at the university.
It is offering a 60 lease on the 15.8 acre development site but said that it wishes to retain a revisionery interest in the land.
A pre-qualification questionnaire is available for firms wishing to bid, and requests to participate must be received by the University by October 31.
