Wirral council signs Chinese ‘sister city’ deal

WIRRAL Borough Council has signed a “sister-city” deal with Taicang City in China’s Jiangsu Province.

The two cities have signed an agreement to promote contacts, trade and economic interaction between both cities, and to co-operate in flields such as science, technology, health, culture, sports and education.

Cllr Phil Davies, deputy leader of Wirral Council, said the agreement was a culmination of work which began three years ago when council leader Steve Foulkes first visited Taicang.

“There is enormous interest in the International Trade Centre, which will deliver vital jobs to Wirral. The signing of our sister city agreement with Taicang will further drive forward our investment strategy and the delivery of the Wirral Waters project,” he said.

“I am proud of what has been achieved and look forward to announcing further exciting developments over the coming years.”
