Pontin’s bookings hit 10-year high

NORTH West holiday parks group Pontin’s has seen Easter short break bookings hit a ten-year high as the popularity of ‘staycations’ continues.
The Southport-based company said it has seen a 40% increase in Easter bookings for three and four nights, compared with last year.
February half term bookings were also ahead of expectations – up 28%, while sales for the summer period are in line with forecasts.
Graham Parr, chairman, said: “I am delighted with the performance of the business during the first quarter. This significant increase clearly demonstrates we are listening to what our guests want and consistently delivering.
“The significant change in the type of holidays consumers demand and the popularity of the three or four night short break is definitely here to stay”.
The company added that the ongoing £50m refurbishment and improvement of its holiday camps will see the introduction of ice and roller skate rinks, enhanced swimming pools and new spa facilities opening during the course of this year and next.
The company will host entertainment from performers including X Factor favourites Eoghan Quigg and Laura White, and Same Difference during the year.
Pontin’s was bought by Ocean Parcs in 2008 for £46m. As well as Ainsdale, it has parks in Prestatyn, Suffolk, Somerset and Sussex. Last year, it announced its Blackpool complex was to close.
