GMWDA puts 700 acres of landfill sites on market

A PORTFOLIO of 17 former landfill sites located around Greater Manchester have been put up for sale by Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA).

The sites, which comprise a total of around 700 acres, were decomissioned during the 1970s and 1980s, but the authority states that they have been closely monitored and maintained ever since.

The land is being offered either as a single package or as smaller parcels. Any purchaser would have to maintain the monitoring role currently carried out by GMWDA.

Jones Lang LaSalle has been instructed to handle the sale and is likely to place them on the market by the end of the year.

The firm’s Manchester-based head of UK regions, David Lathwood, said: “It is the scale of the opportunity that will interest the market. Seventeen large, well located sites around the Manchester conurbation will inevitably offer a range of development opportunities across many sectors.

“We are confident that there will be strong developer interest – both regionally and nationally.”
