Former United CEO Kenyon quits role with talent agency

FORMER Manchester United and Chelsea Football Club chief executive Peter Kenyon has quit his role with US sports and entertainment management group Creative Artists Agency.

The availability of Kenyon, who was born on Stalybridge and worked for football kit brand Umbro before entering football administration with Manchester United, could alert headhunters identifying candidates to fill the vacant chief executive’s role at Manchester City FC.

Creative Artists said Kenyon’s departure was related to a “strategic restructuring” in its CAA Sports International business.

The high-profile role at City – the world’s richest football club – could appeal to Kenyon if he wants to return to his native North West.

However, in September, when he was still at Creative Artists, told the Bloomberg news agency: “I am sure my aspirations are not going back into football club management.”

Tesco Asia chief executive David Potts – a lifelong City supporter – has already ruled himself out of the running to succeed Garry Cook as City’s chief executive.

Cook resigned in early September amid a furore over an email sent to a player’s mother.
