Liverpool to host World Veterinary Conference

LIVERPOOL is to host the World Veterinary Conference in 2015, which it is estimated will have an economic impact of £1.52m.

Some 800 delegates will attend The World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) at the BT Convention Centre on August 16-19, 2015.

WAAVP is a not-for-profit organisation for scientists across the globe who study the parasites of non-human animals, encompassing helminthology, protozoology and entomology.

Kerrin MacPhie, director of sales at ACC Liverpool, said: “This latest conference win demonstrates that Liverpool is a desirable destination for large-scale medical and scientific conferences, with ACC Liverpool securing its reputation as an internationally renowned host venue. We look forward to welcoming WAAVP in 2015.”

Carol O’Reilly, Liverpool Convention Bureau manager at The Mersey Partnership, said: “It is testament to the wealth of expertise in the city region that international conferences of this calibre are coming to Liverpool – not only because we have world-class conference facilities and an unbeatable destination, but because we have a knowledge economy that is home to leading universities and specialist research centres such as the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the School of Veterinary Science, home to the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital. Attending delegates can see first-hand the facilities and expertise that the City Region has to offer.”

Liverpool city region Conference Ambassadors, Professors Sandy Trees and Diana Williams, both from the University of Liverpool, presented the bid at WAAVP’s Buenos Aires conference this year.

The WAAVP conference has previously taken place in Calgary 2009, Gent 2007, Christchurch 2005, New Orleans 2003 and will have visited Perth in 2013 before Liverpool hosts the event.
