Plans approved for 1,100 homes in Crewe

PLANNING chiefs at Cheshire East Council have given the green light for the construction of more than 1,100 new homes on the outskirts of Crewe.

Approval has just been granted for three seperate schemes comprising 1,101 homes. Taylor Wimpey secured outline approval for its Coppenhall East scheme of 650 homes on a greenfield site near Remer St, while a joint development between Bloor Homes and Linden homes was granted permission for 400 new homes on land off Parkers Road. Bewllway Homes also gained permission to build 51 new homes on a site at Gresty Green.

Taylor Wimpey had applied to build 650homes, a replacement pub and other amenities on a 24.2 acre site of largely greenfield land near Remer Street.
Its scheme was opposed by many local residents, who gathered more than 1,500 signatures for a petition opposing the scheme.

A spokesman for Taylor Wimpey said: “We are really pleased that councillors see the opportunities that our proposals offer, not just in terms of housing but also the benefits for the wider community.

“Coppenhall East will help Crewe to grow to meet its aspirations, both physically and in economic terms. We want to continue to work closely with the community as we progress our plans to ensure that Coppenhall East is a community that residents, new and existing, can all benefit from.”

Manchester-based consultancy HOW Planning advised on gaining approval for both the Bloor/Linden and the Bellway Homes schemes.

HOW Planning associate Carol Clarke said: “Cheshire East’s new planning policy actively seeks to promote new housing.”

She added that the Bloor/Linden scheme would “not only have a hugely positive impact on the residential needs of the area, but the developers are also keen to promote the use of local suppliers and provide a number of apprenticeships and training opportunities for local young people”.

Follwing its success for Bellway in Crewe, HOW Planning has also been retained by the housebuilder to submit an application for a further scheme in Middlewich. Planning will be submitted for this scheme before the end of the year.
