British Council for Offices opens 2012 awards

THE BRITISH Council for Offices has opened entries to its 2012 regional awards scheme.
Office projects across the region can be entered for the for the North of England, North Wales and Northern Ireland section of the awards in five separate categories: corporate workplace; commercial workplace; fit-out of workplace; refurbished/recycled workplace and projects up to 2,000 sq metres.
Category winners will be announced in the spring with champions from five UK regions going forward to compete at the national awards, to be held next autumn.
At the national ceremony, three additional prizes will be handed out for innovation, the president’s award and the overall best of the best.
The ceremony for the 2011 national awards took place earlier this month, with Littlewoods’ Skyways House at Estuary Commerce Park in Speke winning the new Test of Time award.
The Test of Time prize was granted to reward previous award-winning schemes that had demonstrably met their original purpose and consistently adapted to changing occupancy requirements.
Skyways House in Liverpool won the inaugural prize for not only transforming the working practices of Littlewoods, but for seamlessly adapting to the needs of the company as it has expanded and diversified over a five-year period.
Richard Kauntze, chief executive of the BCO, said: “The Test of Time Award will allow us to celebrate those workplaces which not only have an immediate impact on the way occupiers do business but which have the capacity to evolve with those organisations as their requirements inevitably change over time. This is the ultimate mark of an outstanding office.”
The deadline for entries to the 2012 awards is November 25.
