Kuits advises Coronation Street on Blanche’s death

LAW firm Kuits has advised the writers of Coronation Street on a new storyline concerning the death of the much-loved character Blanche Hunt.

Maggie Jones, who played Blanche – the acid-tongued gossip and mother of Deirdre Barlow – died in December 2009 aged 75 after a short illness.

ITV Granada subsequently contacted Lauren Clyne, tax and estate planning associate at Manchester-based Kuits, to assist its writers with a storyline concerning Blanche’s will.

Executive partner of Kuits, Robert Levy said: “We admire the writers’ desire to produce accurate material for the show and we were pleased to assist with the legal aspects surrounding the storyline around Blanche’s death.”

This is not the first time Kuits has advised ITV Granada.

Previously, licensing solicitor Felicity Harris-Knott, advised the show’s writers on the story surrounding Peter Barlow’s new bar and employment solicitor Jennifer Platt advised on a storyline surrounding an employment issue in the show.

Miss Jones first appeared in Coronation Street over 35 years ago and had appeared in a number of other well know TV programmes over her long career such as Heartbeat, Peak Practice, and Dalziel and Pascoe.
