Patak’s heir in line for top award

A YOUNG member of the Pathak family, which founded Patak’s spices in the 1950s, is in the running at this year’s Asian Women of Achievement Awards.
Anjali Pathak, 28, has been shortlisted for the Young Achiever of the Year award.
She is the granddaughter of Lakshmishankar Pathak, who founded Leigh-based Patak’s in 1956. The business is now owned by food and retail giant ABF.
The awards, founded and chaired by Indian-born author and entrepreneur Pinky Lilani, champion unsung women of Asian origin. Ms Pathak, joined the family business six years ago and is now the company’s brand ambassador.
Shazia Awan, chief executive of underwear brand Peachy Pink and prospective Conservative party candidate for Leigh, has also been shortlisted for the awards.
The 2010 shortlist includes Maisy Ng, managing partner of venture capitalists Add Partners, and Bee Thakore, founder of successful engineering and business consultancy Big on Good Solutions.
The winners will be announced during a ceremony at the London Hilton on May 19.
