Bam Construction’s North West operations post £141m sales

ONE of the largest construction companies operating in the North West has posted record sales.

Bam Construction has posted a turnover of £141m for 2009 on the back of such ongoing developments as the Co-operative Group’s new Manchester headquarters and Mann Island, in Liverpool.

The company – which has its North West office in Salford – is also working for BAE Systems in Salmesbury, in Lancashire.

Over the past year, it has provided employment for 1,300 people in the construction industry across the North West.

BAM, part of the Netherlands-based Royal BAM Group, also has a division which specialises in education and health projects.

Among the North West projects it has either completed or is still working on are: Liverpool Community College; Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College; Bolton Community College; Bolton Sixth Form College; South Cheshire College; West Cheshire College; Culcheth High School in Warrington; and the new leisure centre for the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN).

The firm is also building the Glan Clwyd Hospital, in North Wales.

Steve Byrne, director of BAM Construction in the North West, said: “This is a very satisfying performance and it is based on knowing our communities, caring about our clients and building well.

“BAM has had an excellent year in the North West, winning and building some of the most prestigious projects in the area.

“We have formed a strong relationship with BAE Systems that reflects the importance we put on being a good community partner to all our clients.

“Our education work continues to be well regarded and the considerateness of our approach is reflected in the industry leading gold awards given just recently for our works at BAE and at Mann Island.

“The health, safety and welfare of people and the protection and regeneration of their environment remains our priority and we are delighted to have received a gold medal for our health and safety performance from ROSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents).

“Our teams and our partners work hard to encourage and develop learning in schools and colleges. We are creating local and young employment opportunities and working with our local communities on our projects.”

The Royal BAM Group is a contractor behind the construction of the stadium which will host this summer’s World Cup Final.
