Trading gets ‘Betta’ for furniture firm

LANCASHIRE fitted bedroom and kitchen company Betta Living has opened its 16th store in Reading as it looks to smash through the £25m turnover barrier this year.
The Oldham-based company, which is a trading division of Dean House, had a turnover of £18m to the end of last year.
Sales for the first 16 weeks of 2010 have been ahead by 46% on a like-for-like basis.
The company now employs 70 people at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and it has a team of 80 sales designers, 100 marketing staff and a network of over 80 fitting teams throughout Britain.
Executive chairman Noel Dean said that the company is achieving growth through acquisitions as well as its sales and marketing strategy.
He said: ““We have bucked industry trends, which are reporting a down turn in kitchen and bedroom sales, by recording a 46% uplift over the first 16 weeks of 2010.
“This performance has underpinned plans for further national growth this year.
“I believe the recession has elevated the more robust businesses from less experienced players.
“We had a strong company going into the downturn, and we were agile enough to make the changes needed to operate in an even smarter way – so we’ve emerged even stronger.
“It also helped that I’ve successfully traded through three recessions.”
Betta Living’s largest showroom is in Stockport, in Greater Manchester.
Its 5,000 ft retail store is due to open in Reading where the firm’s new bespoke TV bed will also be on display.
