TheBusinessDesk.com editor in marathon challenge

THEBUSINESSDESK.COM’S Ian Briggs is running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Yorkshire.
Mr Briggs, deputy editor of TheBusinessDesk.com’s Yorkshire website, will take part in the 26.2 mile run on May 23.
He is running to raise more funds for the charity effort achieved by Yorkshire business leaders Gary Verity and Andrew Palmer, when they ran the New York Marathon last November.
Mr Verity, chief executive of tourist authority Welcome to Yorkshire, led a team of 14 friends and colleagues, including CBI regional director Mr Palmer and David Parkin of TheBusinessDesk.com, across the finishing line.
The team have raised more than £275,000 for the charity but are continuing their fundraising to reach a target of £500,000.
Mr Verity drew inspiration from his wife Helen’s battle with cancer to try to raise to raise £500,000 which will pay for a massive 25,000 hours of nursing in Yorkshire by Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Mr Briggs said: “I was really inspired by the fantastic efforts of Gary and the rest of the team when they completed the New York Marathon and I am really hoping to raise some more money for what is without doubt a fantastic cause.
“I have been pleased with how my training has gone so hopefully I will get round in one piece on the day!”
