Pochin lands deal to build Tata Chemicals’ HQ

POCHIN has been appointed to develop the new UK headquarters office building for Tata Chemicals Europe in Northwich.

The company has already secured funding from RBS to build the 18,000 sq ft offices for Tata after it agreed a 25-year lease on the building. It is based on the Brunner Mond complex at Winnington Lane bought five years ago by the Indian giant.

The office will be built by Pochin Construction, with work due to start within the next few weeks.

Martin Ashcroft, managing director of Tata Chemicals Europe, said: “I am delighted that we can now proceed to create a new head office in Winnington as a sign of our continued commitment to centring our business in Middlewich and Northwich.

“This is an exciting time for our business; having recently acquired British Salt and rebranded as Tata Chemicals Europe.”

Pochin Developments’ head of property development, Bob Nicholson, said: “We are delighted with Royal Bank of Scotland’s continued support of Pochin Developments in financing this prestigious project.

“Our experienced project team has engaged extensively with Tata Chemicals Project Team and all stakeholders to ensure that the design and ultimately the completed building, is of the highest quality, sustainable and energy efficient.

“The design incorporates several innovative principles including space heating provided by the waste heat from the adjacent manufacturing facilities and a drainage system which uses permeable surfaces and rainwater harvesting to remove surface water run-off.”

Tata Chemicals has been advised on the lease by Northwich-based chartered surveyors Fifield Glyn.
