Funding no handicap for laser golf club firm

A NEW golf club that uses lasers to help players improve their swing has been launched by a Cheshire-based business.

The Plaser which has been developed by 73 year-old toolmaker and golf enthusiast Russell Kinsey, uses two lasers in a specially-designed golf club’s grip and its hosel to track movement through a player’s swing.

Mr Kinsey has been developing the product for more than three years, working with local PGA golf professional John Farmer.

He has now teamed up with businessman Alan Turner to form Alsager-based Laser Line Golf to bring the product through to market. The pair have received funding for the venture from Barclays.

Mr Kinsey said: “Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced professional, getting your golf swing right makes all the difference to the way you play.”

Mr Turner, who has previously spent more than 25 years running a manufacturing business, said the pair had already invested more than £120,000 in the device, which is due to appear on Channel 5’s The Gadget Show later this month.

Barclays business manager Chris Moore said: “Alan and Russell are a great example of combining industry expertise with business expertise to bring a new product to market. Getting a new product to market in this hugely competitive industry has shown real commitment and endeavor.

“Hopefully we will see the Plaser in golf shops and academy’s all over the country in the very near future.”
