Lookers drives away with golf course equipment firm

THE agriculture machinery arm of Lookers, the listed car dealership group, has bought a golf course equipment business.

Platts Harris, which has branches in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, and has a £15m turnover, has acquired Yorkshire-based Golf & Turf Machinery.

Wakefield-based Golf & Turf Machinery, sells, hires and services groundcare machinery to golf course owners in Yorkshire.

The company was owned by branch manager Glen Sawyer, who is remaining with the business.

Peter Jones, chief executive of Manchester-based Lookers said: “Golf & Turf Machinery was a well managed business and its acquisition extends our current Lincolnshire and Derbyshire groundcare activities.  We are pleased to welcome Glen Sawyer and his team to the group.”

Mr Sawyer added: “It will strengthen our presence in the groundcare sector and we look forward to our future together.”

North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street advised Platts Harris in the deal, which was led by corporate associate Mark Traynor and also included property partner Matthew Dobson.

Sascha Kripgans of SHK Solicitors advised Golf and Turf Machinery.

Mark Traynor said: “This transaction has extended our client’s market share in the groundcare sector and complements the company’s existing business activity.”
