Blackpool printer closes after 114 years

A Blackpool printer that can trace its roots back to 1896 has gone into administration.

CMYK, the print business of CMYK Group, has ceased trading with the loss of 19 jobs.

Administrators at the Manchester office of RSM Tenon are now preparing to sell the company’s plant, machinery and factory fixtures at auction.

Administrator Jeremy Woodside said: “The printing sector has experienced a long and costly recession, and CMYK Ltd is the latest victim of the harsh economy.

“The company faced significant cashflow problems, and was under increasing pressure from its creditors. As a result, the business was unable to continue. Other businesses within the CMYK Group have not been affected.”

CMYK Group provides design, print and marketing services, specialising in the hospitality sector and the production of multi-purpose maps. The print side of the company changed its name from Blackpool Printers in December 2005.

The business is led by Stephen and David Shelmerdine who were forced to defend the company’s sales practices at a county court hearing in Hampshire earlier this year.
