Britannia submits plans for Manchester fire station

BRITANNIA Hotels has submitted a fresh planning application for the old fire station near Piccadilly Station in Manchester.
The Hale-based group wants to convert the building into a four star hotel with 227 bedrooms.
The application, submitted on June 1, also includes plans for, “restaurants, bar facilities and function spaces”. Manchester City Council hopes to have made a decision by the end of August.
Britannia has owned the property for the past 20 years and slow progress on the site led the council to threaten a compulsory purchase order last year. It also held talks with another developer, Argent, about its plans for the site.
