YUDU develops iPad publishing ‘app’

LANCASHIRE-based YUDU Media has become the first digital publisher in Britain to develop a self publishing ‘app’ for the newly launched Apple iPad.

The product allows magazine, newspaper, brochure and catalogue publishers to reproduce their printed content on both the Apple iPad and iPhone.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (“RBS”) provided Clitheroe-based YUDU with an undisclosed funding package to support the development of the product.

Customers can access the product by purchasing their own branded app which stores all of their publications.

YUDU liaises with Apple to get the app approved and once this is agreed the company’s customers can either sell the app or give it away via the Apple store.

YUDU was established in Clitheroe five years ago and the company has evolved into a leading global provider of digital publishing solutions, with offices in London and Boston.

Its clients include; Virgin Holidays, Haymarket, Littlewoods, London Business School and Quicksilver.

Richard Stephenson, chairman of YUDU, said: “The launch of the iPad has generated considerable interest in both the US and UK.

“Our clients wanted to take advantage of that and asked for our help to develop a product that allows them to self publish on this platform.

“We are very pleased with the results and believe that it will open up new distribution channels for our clients.”

RBS Business and Commercial banking in Blackburn provided funding to YUDU.

John Hough, relationship manager, said: “YUDU has developed an excellent reputation for creating innovative digital publishing solutions.

“The launch of the iPad product enhances their reputation and it’s great to see a British business lead the way in this market.”
