Developer wins approval for Tarporley scheme

A SURREY-based developer has won planning permission to build 33 houses on the edge of a Cheshire village.

Officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council recommended the proposals despite opposition from residents and two parish councils.

GB Development Solutions submitted plans for the estate – a mixture of three to five-bed homes – on a four-acre field north of Tarporley, near Chester, off Utkinton Road.

The site was the subject of an earlier application to build a care home but this was refused by councillors last year.

According to council documents planning officers believe the new scheme will help to address housing demand in the area. They have ruled out alternative brownfield sites as being either too small or unavailable.

Tarporley Parish Council expressed concern about traffic levels and pressure on waste water services. Those views were mirrored by Utkinton Parish Council which also said brownfield alternatives were not fully explored.

Cheshire West received 35 comments complaining about the loss of open space, bad “Georgian pastiche” house designs and the size of the scheme.

GB Development Solutions is a subsidiary of the Sunbury-based construction firm GB Group Holdings.
