Contractor sought for £70m flood defence scheme

BLACKPOOL Council & Wyre Borough Council are looking for a contractor to complete a new seven-year project to reinforce sea walls in the area.

The councils have issued a tender document for companies interested in bidding for the work to replace sea walls at Anchorsholme and at Rossall, near Fleetwood, which is estimated to have a value of between £70m-£100m.

The 1km stretch of coastal defences at Anchorsholme is said to be in “a progressive mode of failure”, while the 1.9km stretch at Rossall has been estimated to have a lifespan of less than five years. In both cases, concrete walls will need to be rebuilt by using both precast and in-situ concrete. The work also involves some landscaping and a potential re-charging of the beach at Rossall.

Documents relating to the project can be found on The Chest North West tender portal – www.thechest.nwce.gov.uk. Expressions of interest must be received by February 22.
