Millard-Smith joins Hill Dickinson from Pannone

LAW firm Hill Dickinson has appointed Derek Millard-Smith a specialist in trading standards and driving offence law as an associate.

He joins the firm following six years at Pannone where he developed a successful trading standards and driving defence practice.

Prior to that, Derek assisted in mounting the successful defence of royal butler, Paul Burrell and had significant involvement at the inquest into the death of Dr Harold Shipman.

Richard Green, partner and head of regulatory at Hill Dickinson, said: “Recent legislation such as the Consumer Protection Regulations 2008 and the effect of the Enforcement and Regulatory Sanctions Act 2008 on the Enterprise Act 2002, has brought trading standards related issues to the forefront of the retail market, meaning that there are now many more issues for businesses to consider in the manufacturing, import, distribution and advertising of their products.

“Derek’s expertise will strengthen our already impressive regulatory team in assisting advising our national and international client base on trading standards’ legislation from ‘shop front’ to online sales.”

Derek Millard-Smith said: “My reputation in both the trading standards and driving defence sectors has been built around finding bespoke practical solutions for my clients through understanding their needs to ensure the desired outcome is achieved.

“Hill Dickinson’s similar dynamic and forward thinking approach to its client services, coupled with its ranking as a top 40 UK law firm and international offering, were key factors in my decision to join firm.”
