Asian opportunities in focus at key event

A HIGH level event to help forge international trade links with China, India and the Far East will be addressd by business minister Mark Prisk this week.

The Doing Business in Asia, has been organised by UK Trade and Investment North West – which promotes international trade across the region, and will offer expert advice and insight to North West businesses.

British Ambassadors and High Commissioners to the 10 Asian countries of China, India, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong are flying in to Manchester for the event at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester to bring North West businesses the most up to date market intelligence.

Advice will also be provided from six Asia-based directors from event sponsors RBS

The event is aimed at North West businesses which already have an interest in, or some experience of, doing business in Asian markets and wish to build on their links there.

Clive Drinkwater, International Trade Director for UKTI North West, said: “The Doing Business in Asia event in Manchester will bring together a Who’s Who of experts on Asia.

“As we look to grow our businesses, nobody can afford to ignore the opportunities which are represented in that part of the world.  Attending this event is sure to give any business a fantastic head start.”

Mr Drinkwater, who heads a team of 30 advisers in the region, added: “The Government has said an export-led recovery is of paramount importance and this event will be an excellent platform forum for businessses to learn more about international trade.

“There are huge opportunities in Asia for businesses from this region. Asia currently accounts for 35% of world GDP, but 50% of its growth.”
