Veka’s recruitment drive attracts 1,000

AROUND 1,000 people attended a recruitment evening at Burnley-based PVCu windows maker Veka, where up to 100 new jobs are set to be created following its acquisition of Bowater Building Products last year.
The company is shifting some of the production carried out by Bowater in the Midlands to its Farrington Road site as part of a rationalisation, while some work such as composite door fabrication is moving the other way.
This has created opportunities at its Burnley plant, and the firm’s HR manager Gabriella Hammond said that its open evening to attract interest in the roles “was a great success”.
“The evening included a number of support initiatives such as help with application forms and an opportunity to speak to our current employees. We also created a company exhibition for visitors to learn more about us, and offered site tours.
“The recruitment process we are undertaking at the moment is for production and engineering vacancies. These roles offer an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking, international company that values its workforce and invests in their future,” she added.
Following its acquisition of Bowater last year, Veka now has a turnover of around £80m and employs 400 staff.
