Centriforce opens £1m plastics facility

PLASTICS recycling firm Centriforce Products has has opened a new £1m in a pioneering new Plastic Recycling Facility (PRF) at its six-acre Liverpool production centre.
The privately-owned company, which has been operating from the site at Derby Road for more than 30 years, said the new facility will sort packaging waste into a range of source and provide a quality raw material for its own production process. It will also lead to 10 new jobs being created.
The new facility was officially opened yesterday by local MP, Louise Ellman.
Louise Ellman said: “I’m delighted to be able to come and open this plastics recycling plant. Centriforce’s continued investment has been a great boost for the ‘green economy’ in Merseyside and it is very encouraging to see a private investor putting its faith in the UK’s growing recycling industry.
“Not only is Centriforce creating ‘green jobs’ but is also saving many thousands of tonnes of waste from going to landfill every year, by turning it into useful and saleable products.”
The new facility is the culmination of a £2m expansion at Centriforce which has seen the company double its production capacity in the past four years.
Centriforce makes recycled plastic boards, planks and utility cable covers for use in the agriculture, construction and retail sectors.
The company currently employs around 80 staff and recycles more than 10,000 tonnes of plastic waste a year, recycling products that would otherwise be destined for export or landfill.
Managing director Simon Carroll: “Centriforce has taken a bold decision to invest in its own sorting facilities for recycled plastic waste.
“We decided it was important to guarantee a reliable, high-quality supply of raw materials, so that we can continue to meet fast-growing demand from our customers and manufacture the high-performance products they expect in future.”
