M&Y’s Manchester growth to create 30 jobs

THE contracting arm of social housing group Regenda, M&Y, has announced plans to open an office in Greater Manchester.

The firm, which is based in St Helens, has said the move will lead to around 30 new jobs being created following its opening on April 1, which will bring the total number of employees within the business to 150.

The company’s turnover has also more than doubled over the past two years to £5m.

M&Y already has bases in Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire, but Regenda Group chief executive Bernard Gallagher said the new roles would provide “employment for local people across the North West, safeguarding their futures and training the tradesmen of tomorrow through its apprenticeship scheme”.

He said that by using M&Y as its own ‘in-house’ contractor, Regenda Group could save money on maintenance costs of its estate of more than 12,000 homes. This allows the firm to plough back proceeds into “providing affordable housing and a range of regeneration projects that bring great social benefit to the region”.

M&Y director Gill Kelly said: “It’s a very exciting time for everyone involved in M&Y, one of rapid expansion and an increase in both staffing levels and turnover.”
