Dublin route opens at Stobart’s Southend airport

STOBART Group has announced that a new service to Dublin from its London Southend airport – offering connections to several US cities from the Irish capital.

The service will be run under the Aer Lingus Regional banner, but will be operated by the Aer Arran business in which Stobart took a stake in October 2010 – two months after the Irish airline entered into bankruptcy protection.

The new daily services from London Southend to Dublin will run three times a day from May 10, 2012 and will allow passengers to take advantage of US customs pre-clearance facilities in Dublin Airport, meaning they can arrive in the US as domestic passengers and avoid customs queues.

Stobart Group CEO Andrew Tinkler said: “This is a further exciting development for London Southend in what is a pivotal year in the airport’s history.

“Dublin is a welcome addition to the services we offer, especially with the fast and efficient onward connections to the USA.

“This, together with the existing Waterford route and easyJet’s first services from next month, will take the airport to over 100 flights a week from May 2012.”
