1,000 applications for RedX Pharma roles

BIOMEDICALgroup RedX Pharma – one of the finalists in TheBusinessDesk.com’s North West Masters Awards – has received more than 1,000 applications from scientists wanting to work for it.
The company, which is based at the Merseybio centre on the University of Liverpool campus, has been recruiting for the launch of its cancer research subsidiary, Redx Oncology, next month.
RedX, which opened recruitment for an initial 19 positions at the state-of-the-art cancer drug research centre in February, is currently receiving upwards of 100 CV’s a day.
Chief executive Dr Neil Murray, said applications had come from far and wide and were of a high calibre.
He said: “One of the challenges we thought we would have as we tried to grow the business, was that we wouldn’t be able to find people with the requisite skills to fill these positions, but the reaction we’ve had has exceeded our expectations.
“The immensely positive response we have had is partly a consequence of the difficult state the pharma industry is in at the moment, with the massive jobs cuts that major pharma companies such as AstraZeneca and Pfizer have made, but it also shows that people are interested in working in the North West and that the region’s reputation for Life Science is growing.”
Last year RedX won £5.9m from the government’s Regional Growth Fund award last year to create the new Redx Oncology centre at the Royal Liverpool Hospital campus.
It is seeking specialists to fill roles in various fields at the centre including chemistry, biology and analytical science. Positions at Redx Oncology range from technicians to senior scientists with significant experience in industry.
Dr Murray said: “We are playing a major role in supporting Liverpool’s aspirations to develop as a key centre for life sciences by creating these jobs and expanding the city’s reputation as a knowledge hub in the North West.
“Redx Oncology is attracting scientists and professionals from all over the world – boosting Liverpool’s knowledge economy and contributing to the growth of the city and the region, and building on the city’s established reputation in cancer care.”
