BT continues super-fast broadband roll-out

TELECOMS giant BT is continuing its roll-uot of super-fast broadband in the North West.
More than 115,500 homes and businesses in the region will be able to access the new speeds bySpring 2013 in the latest phase of BT’s £2.5bn investment.
Barrow and Workington in Cumbria, Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, Eccles, Horwich and Leigh in Greater Manchester, Fleetwood, Longridge, Poulton and St Annes in Lancashire, and Claughton in the Wirral are among the latest locations ear-marked for the programme.
It will take the number of homes and businesses in the North West being passed by the improved network to more than 1.8 million.
Mike Blackburn, BT’s North West regional director, said the investment will bring a major economic boost to the region and help people start their own businesses.
He said: “This is a further major BT investment for the North West. Our roll-out of fibre broadband is going from strength to strength.
“In these tough economic times, this exciting technology will give a big boost to local businesses and households. Sophisticated communications are the lifeblood of any successful community.
“Super-fast broadband can give our businesses a significant competitive edge, helping them save money and improve their services at the same time.
BT’s fibre-optic-based broadband can offer vastly-improved speeds. The FTTP (fibre to the premises) technologu offers speeds of up to 100Mbps, rising to up to 300Mbps from this Spring.
