Cllr Anderson, the current leader of the city council, will be joined by Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham at the launch of his manifesto ‘Leading Liverpool to a Better Future’ at the Learning Exchange at Liverpool Community College.
The other key pledges are to deliver 5,000 new homes, 12 new schools and create what is described as “a sparkling city”.
He said: “My manifesto is an ambitious plan to secure a brighter future for Liverpool.
“It is a tremendous privilege to be the Labour Party candidate for the Mayoral Election. Our city faces huge challenges. I want to lead Liverpool forward, and to meet those challenges head on. I have been Leader of the Council for just 20 months. My record is one of solid success and delivering real improvements for Liverpool.
“I want to be Mayor because of what we can still do. That’s why I’m promising I will deliver 12 new schools for the city, another 2,500 new homes and to deliver 20,000 new jobs across our city.
“We are an ambitious, innovative, big thinking city. I want to set our ambition free, and help every child in this city aim high and achieve their goals. Our city has a long and exciting history. But I am even more excited about its future.
“I firmly believe Liverpool’s best days lie ahead. That’s why I want to be Mayor of Liverpool, and with your help, to lead Liverpool into a bigger, better future.”
