JMW represents axed Game staff

A MANCHESTER law firm is exploring the possibility of taking action on behalf of former Game Group staff who were made redundant last week after the company entered administration.

Employment partner Carl Moran at JMW and his team, have already been contacted by more than 25 former Game staff over the matter.

JMW, which is handling the matter on a no-win, no-fee basis, says that while the case is at a very preliminary stage, there is a good chance of success.

The North West was among the hardest-hit regions by the Game Group administration, with 37 out of 52 stores being closed by administrators last week with several hundred job losses.

At the weekend the administrator PwC announced that OpCapita had bought several hundred Game shops safeguarding 3,200 jobs.

JMW says that despite the administration, former employees can still make a claim as part of a group action.

The firm says there are three avenues available: All dismissed employees are entitled to notice pay (up to 12 weeks depending upon length of service) and up to six weeks’ accrued holiday pay which if unpaid can be recovered from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.

Secondly, all employees who have worked at a store with more than 20 employees will be entitled to become part of a collective bargaining group and pursue further compensation of up to eight weeks’ pay from BIS.

And finally if a store has been acquired and an employee has not been offered back their old job, it may be possible to take action against the new employer.
