JW Lees buys Cheshire pubs from Deckers

JW Lees & Co, the family-owned brewer based in Middleton, north Manchester, has bought two gastro-pubs in Cheshire from Rochdale-based Deckers Restaurants for an undisclosed sum.

The company has bought The Plough & Flail Pub and Restaurant at Mobberley and recently-refurbished The Rope & Anchor at Dunham Massey from Deckers Restaurants in a deal which increases its presence in the North Cheshire area.

JW Lees already owns a large number of pubs in Cheshire, as well as The Edge hotel & restaurant in Alderley Edge.  

J W Lees & Co was advised on the purchase by Manchester-based law firm Lawson Coppock & Hart and PwC. Deckers Restaurants was advised by SNG Commercial Law and Baker Tilly.

In the year to March 31, Deckers Restaurants increased pre-tax profits by 20% to £296,000 on slightly lower sales of £34.3m, while JW Lees grew pre-tax profits by 25% to £3.5m as sales grew by 5% to £53.5m.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
