AMEC makes solid start after Sellafield wins

TWO significant contract wins at Cumbria’s Sellafield nuclear processing plant has helped construction and services giant AMEC make a solid start to the year.

In a trading update the company said its performance in the first three months of this year has been in line with expectations. Its order boook stands at £3.7bn, up from £3.1bn a year ago.

AMEC, whose nuclear business is based at Knutsford, said it has recently been awarded two new nuclear contracts at Sellafield.

The first is a three-year framework agreement to provide specialist environmental consultancy support on the Sellafield site. The second is a 15-year design support framework contract to provide Sellafield with the full range of engineering services for the development and refurbishment of new and existing facilities and for decommissioning. The latter was awarded to AMEC’s AXIOM joint venture (JV).

In the field of clean energy it has won a contract to provide multi-disciplinary and professional services support to Anglesey’s ‘Energy Island Programme’, which is focused on developing low carbon energy in the region.

The company said it is on track to deliver double-digit underlying revenue growth in 2012, despite the continued macro economic uncertainty.

Chief executive Samir Brikho said: ” “We continue to see healthy demand for our services and investment in our end markets – underpinned by the positive industry trends, particularly in the oil and gas and mining sectors. We are confident that this will support double-digit underlying revenue growth in 2012.”
