Stopforth steps down from Liverpool Chamber

JACK Stopforth is to retire as chief executive of Liverpool Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Stopforth, who had been in the role for seven years, will step down at the end of the month. Deputy CEO Carole Crosby has taken charge of of the chamber’s operations with immediate effect.

He said: “It has been a privilege to lead the chamber at such an exciting time in the city’s recent history but at 61, I feel it is time for me to take stock and do something different.

“It is hard to choose when to leave but the start of a new financial year seemed a natural point of departure. Like many other businesses, the chamber faces serious challenges in this trading climate but we have a solid core business, a terrific board of directors and an experienced senior management team. I’d like to thank all of my colleagues for their past support and wish them continuing success.”

The chamber’s acting chairman, Vincent Owen, said: “Jack has steered the chamber skilfully through a period of huge change and has strengthened its relationships with government and the wider public sector.

“He’s built valuable links that we hope will endure. The board all wish him well.”

Prior to becoming chamber chief executive, Mr Stopforth ran the Cumbria Inward Investment Agency. He is also a partner in a public affairs consultancy.
