A LANCASHIRE brickwork firm is entering a new era after the promotion of a fomer bricklayer to managing director.

Nelson-based Keith Walton Brickwork, which is working as a contractor on some major projects  including the giant new Marks & Spencer store at Cheshire Oaks and the Leeds Arena, has appointed Harry Clayton as its new MD.

Founder Keith Walton has also acquired the minority stake in the business from the former managing director, David Ferguson, who has now retired.

The firm  is hoping to grow turnover to £11m in the next financial year, up from £9m in 2011/12.

The company works for some of the UK’s biggest contractors, including Lend Lease, Balfour Beatty, Galliford Try, Interserve and Lancashire-based Conlon Construction.

Mr Clayton who joined the company as a bricklayer 20 years ago, has been joined on the board by Ian Jump and John Wolfe as contract directors.

He said: “The formation of a new management team represents a new era for the business. We have successfully moved into new sectors to replace work we lost during the downturn and are on target to get turnover back to around the £11m mark, which is where we where before the recession.”

Lancashire commercial law firm Garricks has advised Keith Walton, on the buyback of David Ferguson’s shares in the company.

Andy Herricks, partner at Blackburn-based Garricks, said: “To be able to appoint a number of directors that have already worked for the company for many years is testament to the loyalty and respect that Keith has instilled in the business. These new appointments put the company on a firm footing for the future.”
