Johnson Service upbeat despite tough high street

TEXTILES and facility management group Johnson Services says it is making progress despite  tough trading in its high street drycleaning business.

The Cheshire company’s chairman, John Talbot, will tell shareholders at the annual meeting today that the business has performed in line with expectations in the first four months of this year.

Among the highlights are the completion of two acquisitions in the Textile Rental and FM divisions.

Mr Talbot will say: The Textile Rental division is performing well and completed the acquisition of the Cannon Textile Care business and assets with an effective date of 30 March 2012. The integration and restructuring of the business is progressing well.

“The integration of the Nickleby business acquired in February by our FM business, SGP is continuing to plan and we are beginning to see the benefits of employing new working practices and systems.”

The Johnsons drycleaning dividion is continuing to be impacted by low levels of consumer spending, and has seen a “a small reduction in like-for -like-sales in the first four months of the year”.

Mr Talbot will add: “We remain confident in achieving a satisfactory overall result for the full year 2012 and despite the continuing harsh economic environment, we feel very positive about the prospects for the group.”
