Acquisitions boost Weightmans’ turnover 33%

WEIGHTMANS, the national law firm headquartered in Liverpool, has revealed a 32.9% surge in annual turnover to £77.1m.
The firm, which gobbled up smaller North West practice Mace & Jones last year, said Profits per Equity Partner was £275,000, down from £300,000 lasy year. Managing partner Patrick Gaul said the financial performance had been “respectable”.
As well as the Mace & Jones deal Weightmans took on teams from Vizards Wyeth in the South East.
Mr Gaul described the last year as a “landmark” for the firm, which had seen much integration of new people, clients and systems.
“A lot of the work we have done this year will stand us in good stead for many years to come. We wanted to create one firm, we are not quite there yet but we have made a huge amount of progress.
“All in all I am very encouraged by both the respectable financial result and the response from the market and the profession. It has been a good year for Weightmans.”
The enlarged firm is in the midst of moving its Liverpool head office, having agreed a 15-year lease for 94,000 sq ft at Bruntwood’s The Plaza on Old Hall Street.
The move sees the relocation from India Buildings of more than 576 lawyers and support staff.
As well as Liverpool and Manchester – where it employs 198 – the firm has offices in London, Birmingham, Leicester, Knutsford and Dartford.
