Sheppard Robson lands Siemens project

ARCHITECTURE firm Sheppard Robson has been appointed by developer Kier Property to develop plans for Siemens’ proposed new £30m, 20-acre green technology park in south Manchester.

Kier Property was appointed as developer partner by Siemens to the project last month, for which Siemens has already been granted some some regional development funding.

The mixed-use project will be anchored by a new 100,000 sq ft office building next to its Sir William Siemens House building off Princes Parkway, which is also being refurbished. Other planned buildings on the site include speculative office space, apartments and a hotel.

Tony O’Brien, partner and design director at Sheppard Robson, said: “The vision for the technology park is to become ‘best in class’, forging links with the region’s universities and knowledge-based businesses in the low carbon sector. In line with this focus, we will work with the development team to design a scheme that is highly sustainable and supports Siemens’ low carbon vision.”

Sheppard Robson is already working with Siemens on a new headquarters building in the renewable energy-powered Masdar City scheme in Abu Dhabi.
“We are pleased to be bringing our expertise in this field to south Manchester to create a state-of-the-art sustainable science and technology destination that will attract new business and skills to the area,” said O’Brien.

Kier Property’s senior development manager James Richardson said: “Sheppard Robson’s experience in this sector is second to none and we look forward to working together to deliver a scheme of the highest quality.”
