Worthington’s Lytham Aldi scheme underway

WORTHINGTON Properties has begun work on a £9m mixed-use scheme in Lytham St Annes containing a 14,155 sq ft Aldi superstore and 34 one- and two-bed apartments.

The development, which will also contain 70 spaces for shoppers and ten basement parking spaces for residents, will be built at Clifton Drive North on the site of the derelict five-storey former Conservative club building. The Aldi store will be at ground floor level with apartments above.

Preston-based developer-contractor Worthington Properties said the entire scheme will be complete by November 2013 and that the apartments will be built by sister firm Hollinwood Homes.

Development director Russell Worthington said: “The development will be in keeping with the surrounding area and both the retail and the residential elements of the scheme will offer new opportunities for the local community.

“The new Aldi store will help to diversify the food retail experience in St Annes and help create new jobs for the area, while the apartments will offer first-time buyers and keyworkers the chance to own their own home.”

This will be the third Worthington Properties development to feature an Aldi store, following others in Huddersfield and at Sale in Greater Manchester.

Mike Clarke, Aldi property director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Worthington Properties again and are very much looking forward to the store opening next year.”
