Mono Pumps moves to Oldham

MONO Pumps has announced plans to relocate from its current base in Audenshaw to a 31,500 sq ft site at Greengate in Chadderton previously occupied by BAE Systems.

The company is relocating to a larger site as part of an investment in a larger site said to be worth up to £20m.

Mono Pumps’ roots in the Manchester area go back to 1865 but the company is now owned by US-based parent National Oilwell Varco (NOV).

Paul Naylon, group managing director, said: “This move has been prompted by the fact that we have outgrown our existing premises and need extra capacity.

“Over recent years we have been expanding our product range and enjoying increasing success, particularly in the wastewater and the oil and gas industries.

“This move will allow us to invest in new manufacturing plant and equipment, and also give us the space we need to serve the growing demand and provide increased levels of service to our customers both here in the UK and overseas.”

The firm gained funding support from Oldham Council to facilitate a move to the Greengate site, which was occupied by BAE Systems until it stopped manufacturing operations there in March. It is currently owned by Royal London Asset Management, and sits next to a site containing the headquarters of Findel-owned online retailer Kitbag.

Prior to the move, Mono Pumps was previously understood to have been looking at a move within Tameside to Ashton Moss Business Park.

Mr Naylon said: “We are grateful to the efforts of Oldham Council which played a very significant role in helping to secure some of the funding for this move.”

The site has space for expansion and could potentially house up to 1,000 jobs.

Oldham Council leader, Jim McMahon, said: “NOV Mono Pumps needed a local authority with the commitment and vision to deliver quickly – and they came to the right place.

“It was vitally important that we acted to ensure a firm of this stature remains located here in the Greater Manchester region.

“We’ve worked particularly hard within the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) to put this package together and this deal shows that when people come to Oldham Council to do business they get fast responses, quick decisions and a no-nonsense approach that benefits everyone.”
