Ordsall Hall museum wins CCINW awards

THE restoration of Ordsall Hall museum was named project of the year and best heritage project at the Centre for Construction Innovation’s (CCI) annual awards.

The Grad I-listed building was redeveloped into a museum by Urban Vision Partnership – a joint venture between Salford City Council, Capita Symonds and Galliford Try Construction. The building, which is more than 650 years old, reopened to the public in May 2011.

Kier Construction was also named as contractor of the year at the awards, which took place at Manchester’s Palace Hotel last Thursday. Warden Construction won SME of the year.

CCI is a University of Salford-backed initiative aimed at improving construction excellence. In tital, some 16 awards were presented from a list of more than 150 nominations.

Roy Stewart, operations director at CCI, said: “The sector is still experiencing tough times economically, but, through our work with industry and through the evidence on display, it is gratifying to see so many clients, consultants, contractors and their supply chains doing so much great work.

“The awards show just how our industry is investing in training, investing in people and adding value to everything they do. In the North West we have a construction industry that is helping its clients deliver value for money and buildings and infrastructure that are fit for purpose; both our industry and our clients are showing leadership through these tough times and innovation in all that it is done.”
